Carried out in partnership with Intuilab and Eurocontrol, Anims is a "Care-ino" research project on the contribution of animation and sound in the software interfaces dedicated to air traffic control.
A set of object animations as well as a sound vocabulary were created by Intactile DESIGN - working closely with ATC (Air Traffic Control) experts - on air traffic control usage situations. These elements were then used to set up experiments which would determine, according to a scientific methodology, the benefits of using sound and animation. Indeed, combining the two greatly improves the detection and understanding of changes, above all concerning peripheral vision.
It was, in fact, demonstrated in this study that the use of animation and sound in the ATC HMI is able to decisively improve the efficiency and safety of on-screen task execution.
